The Chip War: Microsoft, Oracle, and the Dystopian Future of AI

The Age of AI: Between Progress and Paranoia

Welcome to 2024, the year when we apparently decided to throw caution to the wind and embrace our dystopian future with enthusiasm! Microsoft has decided to hit the red button and go "FULL NUCLEAR" in the development of AGI. Why settle for gradual improvement when you can jump straight to the robotic apocalypse, right?

The Digital Armageddon Race: Microsoft isn't just running; it's doing an Olympic sprint towards AGI, dragging along OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and NVIDIA. It's as if they're playing "Who Wants to Be a Supreme Digital Overlord?", with Jensen Huang from NVIDIA cheering from the sidelines, shouting that Moore's Law is now a faded memory compared to the speed at which AI is evolving.

1. Microsoft: "Hey guys, how about we create an intelligence superior to human? What could possibly go wrong?"

2. OpenAI: "We're with you! After all, our name suggests openness, even though we're actually as closed as a nuclear bunker."

3. NVIDIA: "We have the fastest chips in the West... and the East, and everywhere else!"

But the real question is: are we really creating general artificial intelligence or just an elaborate system to decide which Instagram filter to use faster?

Options: How to prepare for our new digital overlord?

  • Learn binary language: it might come in handy when we need to communicate with our new masters.
  • Invest in AI-proof underground bunkers: because you never know when Skynet will decide to take over.
  • Develop an app to train cats to fight robots: they might be our last line of defense.

But fear not, while Microsoft plays "Let's Create the Digital God," Oracle has thought it wise to propose a national surveillance system based on AI. Why settle for creating a superior intelligence when you can also make it Big Brother? Larry Ellison seems to have taken "1984" not as a warning, but as a manual.

The Editor War: The Battle We Didn't Know We Had to Fight

While tech giants play who has the smartest (artificially speaking), poor developers are engaged in a war of their own: the battle of code editors. VS Code, Copilot, Zed, Cursor, and the newcomer Supermaven are vying for the throne of "best way to drive a programmer crazy."

The Arsenal of the Modern Developer: No longer just simple editors, but true weapons of mass productivity destruction.

1. VS Code: The equivalent of a Swiss army knife, if the knife also had a rocket launcher built in.

2. Copilot: Why write code when you can have an AI do it and then spend hours figuring out what the hell it did?

3. Supermaven: The new prodigy promising to solve all problems, except the one of deciding what to order for lunch.

The real innovation will be when we create an editor that writes the code, debugs it, puts it into production, and then takes the blame when everything goes wrong.

The Future is Here, and It's Strangely Familiar

As we stride towards a future where AI might surpass human intelligence, we still find ourselves grappling with the same old issues: privacy, security, and the constant search for the perfect code editor. It's comforting to know that, despite all technological advancements, some things never change.

In conclusion, while Microsoft and Oracle play 5D chess with our future, we mere mortals can only hope that AGI, once developed, has a better sense of humor than ours. In the meantime, we will continue to debate the vital importance of having perfect syntax highlighting in our favorite code editor, unaware that we might be programming our future digital overlords.

May AI assist us all. Or maybe not.
